ISO 17100 is a European standard that was developed under the auspices of the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), in collaboration with institutions, associations, organisations and private sector representatives. In Spain, the standard was implemented by AENOR (Asociación Española de Normalización, Spanish Standards Association), and was published in the Official State Gazette in December 2006. ISO 17100 is largely based on ISO 9001, although there are specific additional guidelines to guarantee quality in translation services. Unlike ISO 9001, this standard is specific to the sector.
The specific quality-control guidelines include:
- Qualification requirements for translators.
- Requirements for the translation process, including:
- Text analysis (type of text, target group and so on).
- The need for revision by a corrector who is not the translator.
