In this type of interpreting, the interpreter acts as an intermediary between the two parties, translating what each one says into the other’s language. It requires an active command of the two languages in question in order to work in both linguistic directions.
Liaison interpreting is best suited to very small groups (ideally made up of two people.) For larger groups, we recommend using more than one interpreter or a different interpreting technique.
Liaison interpreters accompany individuals and intervene in very small discussion groups, involving sales and factory visits, touring, technical interviews, negotiations and so on.
